Tucked away in a corner of Sale, a stones throw from the border with Broadheath and Timperley is Trafford Councils Hidden Gem. Woodheys Park was opened in the early 1970’s and the site, which was formerly used as farmland, is still known as ‘Pinky Park’ because pigs from a field across the brook frequently strayed into the park. The park is approximately 7.5 hectares in size and consists of a grass area and a woodland area.
The park boasts well-maintained facilities such as an 18 Hole Pitch and Putt – open from Easter to end September everyday from 10am (the last tee off is two hours before the park closes). There is a small fee for the hire of clubs and golf balls, arranged from the pavilion building. Woodheys Park is currently the only park in Trafford with a fully operational pitch and putt course.
There is a well maintained Children’s playground and, adjacent to the children’s play area are several fruit trees. The woodland at the bottom of the park is a protected area, acting as a nature reserve and important wildlife corridor. It also has some ancient ditches and hedges.
The park has a friends group “Friends of Woodheys Park” (FoWP) formed in 2001 which is still going strong.
The park is easily accessible from Kenmore Road (with car park), Link Road, and through Woodheys Clough on the path along Sinderland Brook and Footpath 23, with a bridge linking it to the Stamford Brook Estate.
The Pitch and Putt is a particular feature and can provide a lovely couple of hours entertainment at little cost. You will be welcomed by Graham and Rosie (his little white dog). The Pitch and Putt course is now open – please come along and experience Traffords ‘hidden gem’ to improve your skills or just to have some fun with friends and family. It’s here for you to enjoy in this wonderful park.
On Saturdays you may also find the latest attraction – Nelo’s Coffee Indulgence pop up coffee shop, where you can enjoy a nice coffee of your choice during your visit. Open noon till 4pm.
We hope you enjoy your next visit to Woodheys ‘Pinky’ Park.
