Winter Skin Glow: A Quick Guide
Just as a consistent regime prevents wrinkles, adjusting your routine for winter addresses the unique challenges brought by the chilly weather.
Here are my top eight tips to maintain healthy skin:
1. Gentle Cleansing and Exfoliation
Combat dryness with a gentle cleanser and a mild exfoliator for a smoother complexion. Limit exfoliation to once a week to avoid irritation and broken capillaries.
2. Hydration with Anti-Aging Ingredients
Counter winter dryness with a serum or moisturiser containing hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and retinol. Apply before sunscreen or makeup for optimal results.
3. Sun Protection
Winter sun can still damage your skin, so use at least SPF 20 daily, even on cloudy days. If you have sensitive skin, use retinol or suffer with pigmentation, opt for SPF 50 for added protection.
4. Beauty Sleep and Hydration
Do your best to get seven – eight hours of nightly sleep and stay hydrated throughout the day to prevent stress-related inflammation and wrinkles.
5. Nighttime Rituals
Gradually introduce retinol for transformative wrinkle reduction and use a replenishing moisturiser to lock in hydration.
6. Personalised Skin Cycling
Experiment with product usage based on your skin’s needs, reserving retinol for nighttime, and avoiding sleeping in SPF. Vitamin C is most effective in the sunlight hours.
7. Me Time Matters
Prioritise self-care to reduce stress, incorporating activities like reading, doing puzzles, or my top tip – try some device-free hours.
8. Choose Clinical Brands
Invest in clinical brands for efficient penetration of bioavailable ingredients. While seemingly more expensive, they make a visible difference when used correctly.
Embrace the winter chill with confidence, knowing your skin is nurtured and protected, unveiling your radiant winter glow.
